From our late 20's onwards, collagen diminshes in our bodies at a rate of about 1.5% a year. Once this process starts, the signs of ageing begin to appear - wrinkles, aches and pains that are often unexplained. All these are indicators of a depletion of collagen in our bodies.
Temporary treatments such as collagen enhanced creams are available, but they only penetrate the top few layers of skin. As we naturally shed skin everyday, we loose the benefit of the cream quite quickly.
Collagen or Red light therapy, which is also know as Photo Rejuvenation, was developed as a result of research done by NASA and trialed extensively in hospitals in the USA and other countries throuh out the world (Typical Study) and has been found to help in many area's. These range from helping to kill the bacteria associated with acne, to promoting the healing of wounds in children who, as a result of treatment for cancer, developed acute mouth ulcers resulting from the use of chemotherapy and radiation.
The use of light at 633nm, which is know as red light therapy, has been available in beauty salons for a few years in the form of small facial or hand held units (Salon and Manutfacturers sites). Recent advances in technology mean that you can now have a full body unit in the form of a sunbed fitted with collagen light therapy lamps. This changes the purpose of the unit from tanning to skin rejuvenation. Because the lamps opperate at a different frequency, it does not have the same stigma attached to it as a conventional sunbed used for tanning.
So how does it work? Red light therapy penetrates the skin by 8 - 10 mm. It encourages the formation of new capillaries in the skin, which then helps with the removal of toxins and aids damage skin, speeding up the healing process. It also stimulates the production of collagen, which is a protein with a high elasticity level. This helps keep the skin supple and contributes to a rejuvenated youthful look.
As previously mentioned, there have been medical trials studying the benefits of light therapy at this frequency on patients who suffer with acne and scar tissue resulting from ulcers. By extension it will also help with other skin problem - some are listed on the benefits page. There have also been studies in America and Switzerland looking at the rejuvenating effects on the skin. We already have one local customer, who suffers from Rosacea comment on the benefits of red light therapy.
